Water Flow in Marine Systems. One of the hardest things to figure out in a marine system is whether you have too much, or too little flow. Depending on the corals you have, your rockwork, and tank size, your flow requirements may be very different to that of others...so how do you control this important aspect? The month Stephanie Kohl will present Water Flow in the Reef Aquarium. In this presentation she will review the objectives of water flow and the different types of water flow that can meet those needs. Additionally, she will cover some of the various pumps and devices available, comparing power consumption, flow rates, and cost. Finally, she will discuss tools such as controllers, closed loop systems, current changing devices, and surge devices that can be utilized to meet your tank's needs. As usual, we will have LFS gift certificates for our free member door prize. This month we will also hold a cash raffle to help fund the up-front costs of The CRASE. Raffle tickets will be $2.00 and you can enter to win one of two Koralia 4 powerheads.
This meeting will be held at UCO - doors open at 7.30.
CRASE tickets will be available.

JUNE Meeting, 7.30 pm at UCO; Breeding Fish and Water Flow |

At 8.00 Eric will present the "breeding of clownfish" seminar. This is a topic I have wanted to see at a COMAS meeting for a long time now and I know many of you are equally excited about the thought of learning the nuts and bolts of propagation. With the success of the donor program, captive breeding programs are the next logical step forward for the club. Eric has experience with many different species of clownfish and is currently basing his Doctoral thesis on the genetics of the species. The information he has to share will be invaluable to anyone hoping to breed these beautiful animals.
In this regard I would also like to propose we set up a splinter group of individuals who would really like to pursue this as a goal and hopefully succeed and act as a collective of information for others to follow. This will be one of the topics of conversation before and after the seminar.
In addition we will also be discussing water flow in marine systems, the practicalities and pitfalls.
Door prizes this meeting will include gift certificates to local stores (Door prizes only available to COMAS members).
